There is an emergency response system, and vending kiosks for refreshments and souvenirs. The park is monitored via a high-tech surveillance system to ensure the safety of users.
Visitors to the location can enter from the eastern entrance as well as from the western side in the village of Highland. Both entrances are handicapped accessible, and pets are welcome. However, there are strict guidelines for garbage disposal and caring for pets as this is central for maintaining a healthy/clean environment. There are no entrance fees for the trails.
For visitors wishing to explore more, there are many other historical areas where individuals can visit to experience other varieties of outdoor activities. Places that are nearby include the rail trail which is an extension of the Walkway network meandering in both directions, the Mohonk Preserve and hiking trail in New Paltz, New York, the Catskill and Adirondack Trail. However, for access to these trails there may be a minimal cost. The historic district of Poughkeepsie also offers many options for sightseeing, dining, resort accommodations, colleges, and art and crafts.
